Had a chance today to go over to my friend Pete (not ZR-1) and try on his OEM Z06 wheels from his 2007 car. He has a silver Z.
Here's the album. Comments please.

looks good, if you go that route, you need to lower the car a bit to make it look perfect

darn ,dom those look great . they if they were polished or chromed would look almost like the ccw wheel a guy had on his blue zr1 a while back . what size are they?

Looks fantastic, gives the car a more up to date look. Needs lowered.
I may have to do that when I'm employed again.

Uummm...not sure :icon_scra. I mean I like the wheels, always have but on the Zee, tires kinda look like rubber bands in some pics, as stated on here maybe lowering would help that look out a bit :dontknow:. I'm not much help. Like the color of your car, BTW .

Brad,

Those are 18x9.5/19x12. With a .5" spacer I think the rears would line up nicely and everything clears. Even with no spacer the only issue is a brake line that could easily be modified. The fronts are 40mm offset but there's a ton of clearance. The tires stick out ever so slightly. Almost a non issue IMO.
If this could work out, then it opens up the availablility of buying all those OEM wheels and tires the C6 crowd is selling.
Any comments on CompGrey color?

I still think the best bet is to get an aftermarket front wheel and the use the back factory wheel with a spacer.

Jeff,

Logically speaking I agree with you, however, aesthetically, the difference is nearly a non issue. I would buy a good set of OEM wheels, possibly tires with them, use a 1/2" spacer on the rears, then go on my merry way. Bob's car is clearly "slammed" while mine clearly is not. I would look to lower mine by about .5-.75"

True, that is one problem with going to bigger wheels when you are slammed. I just think it looks funky out of the fender lines, plus the extra debris kicked up will chew up the lower panels.

Jeff,

Honestly, it REALLY didn't look that bad. I think I may have a pic of it somewhere to demonstrate. We measured the stock wheel v the Z wheel.
The difference was about 5/8" which sounds pretty close to the 17mm offset diff.

persomally ,those wheels look awsome on your car, the silver goes well with the blue/ . it makes the amolds look funky after seeing those on your car . but thats just me . plus you can most likely get them for a decent price.

Two more cents from the peanut gallery.

I'm with Brad on this one, when you compare the look, to me, the A-molds appear to be very, very "dated" looking vs the new stuff.

The only negative that was an initial impression is that they look out of place at first glance. I mean that the new wheels make the lines of the C4 look "dated". I think it's really just a matter that I'm not used to seeing newer generation wheels on a C4 though. Probably a bit of lowering of a C4 and that impression would go away as it seems, to me, that the 5's & 6's sit lower on their stock wheels than do C4's?:dontknow:

May I ask is it the flexible rear brake line that is close to wheel contact? Is that with or without the spacer? Sorry for the Q's. It would be nice to have a low cost alternative wheel to help us have a broader tire selection.

Tom, The rear brake line was up against the wheel rim, but that is without using a spacer. A .5" spacer would easily provide clearance and also using a rear line with a modified coupling to change angle of line going to caliper would also improve fitment. Everything else cleared with these 12" wheels and again that was with NO SPACER.
I think dropping my car .5-.75" would not cause any problem with clearance front or rear IMO.

You'll need to go more than .5in on the rear for it to look right. I'd say .75 to 1in to roughly match the fitament/look of the front.

P.S. you will also need longer wheel studs for the rears.

Im with Ryan on this one. Maybe with the ZR1 repops just released. The tires do look rather small. Maybe somme CCWs or FM5s

GC,

I think the "rubber band" look would be an issue no matter what wheel simply due to the aspect ratio of any tire that size. On the side x side,
the stock looking ZR-1 wheels look dated and a bit dumpy IMO.
However,as the Romans said, "Degustibus non disputandum". IOW, to each his own which is what makes this a more interesting hobby.

Bob,

Good point on the studs. So probably would go with adapters instead. Yes?
We did measure the distance from the front sidewall to a point in the wheelwell. The stock wheel/tire combo was about 5/8" further out, so the .5 -.75" adapter would be the way to go.

Dom im suggesting the new ZR1 wheels not the ZR-1 A-molds. I understand what you saying about the A-Molds. It seems every C4 and F-body is running around with them

OH! You meant the ZR(no hyphen) wheels. Agreed. Yes I think they are a definite alternative. =Jeff= is trying to photoshop a set onto one of the pics right now to see how they may look.
One issue is that they would need to be repros since the OEMs are 19/20.

19-20s are too big for me . i still like doms first choice but with the .75 spacer . maybe drop the front .75 and the back .5-.6 would to me make that car look killer . with just a very small downward rake/

Thanks Jeff. That pretty much settles it. The ZR1s are too blingy for me.
I think the question is really whether its silver, hyper silver, or comp grey.

Here's a couple of questions I have when contemplating these wheels

Thinking of putting some OEM Z06 wheels on my car with stock Supercars, I have several questions:

1. The rears will be 19" and nearly an 1" taller than the 17" wheel tire combo I have now. Will this in affect the ABS or ASR provoking a CCM code?

2. What about the TPMS? Would C6 sensors work in conjuction with 92 CCM?

3. Would I be better off using spacer with longer race wheel studs or an adapter?

Any thoughts?
